Melbourne Qantas Club

Melbourne Qantas Club – Tullamarine

Well I was travelling to see relatives in Tassie, and I was waiting in the Qantas club and I thought to myself “Hey, you can order coffee’s here, and they do serve them properly so why not?” So I got out my note book, and started writing.

The froth is light and sweet, and there is a good amount of it. It looks very impressive also because a layer of choc syrup is coated to the sides of the glass, but it does sink. The flavour is rich and very sweet; in fact a little too sweet for me. The thickness is surprisingly good but there is a choc shot, and it is not hot enough.

Summary: So what are my outcomes in this spur of the moment review…meh. I mean it is fairly nice, and the thickness is what makes it, but it’s still not amazing

Scintilla Cafe - Heidelburg

Scintilla Café – Heidelberg

Served in a mug with 2 marshmallow and standard looking froth. Speaking of the froth, it hasn’t got mush flavour and there is too much of it. The marshmallows are very soft and spongy which is nice, and it is served at a great hot temp.

It tastes exactly like milk chocolate, not to strong not to weak. But it does get stronger as you get to the bottom, and it leads to a choc shot.

Summary: A simple, yummy Hot Chocolate. Nothing complex, but nice nevertheless.

Starbucks

Starbucks – There are 16635 locations worldwide so you shouldn’t really have any trouble finding one, but if you do want to know I had mine in the CBD of Melbourne.

Signature hot chocolate

Well this should be an interesting review, tasting the hot chocolate of the world’s largest café franchise.

So starting off you get the option of marshmallows and cream, I said yes to both. Even if you’re having there, it is still served in the world famous cardboard cup. You will open it up to see a very unenticing “shlop” of cream, froth and 2 marshmallows. When tasting the froth it’s a strange half cold half warm, sweet chocolate flavour that I didn’t really like.

In the mixture the chocolate is stirred and has a fantastic rich dark flavour. It’s a very thin consistency yet manages not to be watery. The temperature is goog but could be hotter and it’s consistent but with a medium choc shot, which is okay.

Summary: Knowing the mass marketing of places like this, I didn’t expect it to be amazingly good, but I was mildly surprised at the quality. Better than I thought it was going to be, but still with the obvious flaws due to being in the large commercial business.

Cacao - St.Kilda

Cacao – St. Kilda

Signature Hot Chocolate

Well someone asked for a place in St. Kilda and I’ve finally found the time to get ‘round to it.

Served in a tall mug with an artistic design on top. The froth is smooth and light, with a sweet chocolaty taste. And the bottom part of it is unbelievably velvety, plus there is a perfect amount of it. The mixture is a soft light flavour with a strong emphasis on creamy milk. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing though, it was still very, very nice. It was consistent right to the end and had no choc shot, but could be just slightly hotter.

I think it may be a light flavour so that it accompanies the delicate chocolates that are at the counter. Also it was definitely filling.

Summary: A store based around chocolate, so you’d expect the Hot Chocolate to be of a high standard, and you’d be very, very right. Delicious!
